Aldi named 2018 retailer of the year
Aldi has been named 2018 Retailer of the Year by Supermarket News.
The food and retail trade publication cited the fast-growing grocer’s prices and its high-quality store-brand products as the main reasons for its selection for the second time since 2015.
Aldi, which has about 1,800 stores in 35 states, is rapidly expanding, spending $5.3 billion on new and remodeled stores. The Illinois-based chain is spending $155 million to upgrade 83 Florida stores by 2020, according to a news release.Those renovations will be 50 percent complete by the end of the month.
