Convenience store chain Wawa Inc., headquartered in Pennsylvania, is something of an icon to Philadelphia-area residents. Its largest state by number of stores is close to home, in neighboring New Jersey. That’s about to change.
The company now says its direction of growth will be southerly, with Florida set to open new stores and surpass both New Jersey and Pennsylvania by the end of 2021, becoming its largest state for convenience store locations. Right now, the company operates 840 stores in six states and Washington, D.C.
